Sita Brahmachari, author of new title, ‘Jasmine Skies’ visited our Library on 20th April by kind arrangement with Books@Hoddesdon All Year 8 girls attended this talk by Sita who won the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize for her first novel entitled ‘Artichoke Hearts’.
Sita talked to the girls about how she was inspired by close family members to write her books and she brought along many props. After a Question and Answer session Books@Hoddesdon sold copies of Sita’s books and Sita signed them. We are looking at inviting an author to the Library for Year 8 boys in the near future.
To celebrate this year’s World Book Day on Thursday 1st March the Library welcomed popular author, Carol Hedges who spoke to Year 7 girls about her writing career. Carol was longlisted for the prestigious Carnegie Medal and is well known for her Spy Girl series. These books are futuristic spy thrillers full of adventure, following the actions of heroine, Jaz Dawson. All four books in this series are now available for purchase from the Library desk priced at £5 each, a discount of 99p on the cover price. Carol signed books in the Library after her talk on Thursday.
Mark Walden, popular author of the HIVE series visited SBS Library on 23rd September to talk to all Year 7 boys. Following his presentation there was a book signing in the Library for all students. This event was organised with the help of books@hoddesdon
Award winning, popular author, LUCY JAGO visited SBS Library on May 23rd to talk to girls in Years 7and 8. She spoke about her recently released historical novel, ‘Montacute House’. This House is a National Trust property where the action of this Elizabethan story is set. The event was arranged with books@hoddesdon and Lucy did a book signing during the day.
During our Library Launch Week in September 2010 we held a video conference with North London Collegiate School who were hosting the well known author, Mary Hooper. She was talking about her new historical fiction title, Fallen Grace to a number of Key Stage 3 girls.
Later in 2010 Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series was promoting his recent novel, The Red Pyramid at a school in London. A group of Key Stage 3 boys took part in a webcast in the Library and were able to pose a question to the author.
